There is nothing worse then a roof leak that has been patched over and over and every time it rains your roof leaks again! Noticing a stain on your ceiling or hearing a drip typically discovers a roof leak. The problem in most cases, your roof has been leaking for quite some time.. it is just now manifesting itself on your ceiling. Most troubled property owners call a roofing contractor who may call him-self or herself a “leak specialist” to locate the source of the leak and repair it. Most of the time a well-educated roofing contractor will inspect the interior area of the leak, inspect the roof itself and eventually inspect the sheathing from the attic (if it is accessible). What normally happens with roofs leaks (and any other leak for that matter) is that water will follow the path of least resistance and settle or pool in one spot. But where the leak begins is the issue and may take hours to locate even for an experienced roofing technician. Infrared thermography is an invaluable tool when it comes to locating a roof leak source without the need to remove the ceiling tiles or performing an intrusive inspection. The thermal properties of water are unique, allowing water to be observed on the surface of building material or even within the building material being examined. When water evaporates on the surface of building materials, it cools. If the building material is at a different temperature, the water's thermal difference may be detected by conductance through the building material. Some roofers are happy to chase their tails to find a roof leak and gladly bill their customer. Using infrared thermal leak detection technology, others would prefer to remain sane and locate the leak and repair it quickly and affordable. When it comes to water pooling in the middle of your ceiling, the leak source is usually far away from where the water has actually pooled and penetrating through… that’s just the low point. Infrared Thermal imaging is a fantastic roof leak detector for homes, buildings, plants, and facilities. Using Infrared thermal imaging to identify water damaged portions of a roof quickly and accurately which can be repaired will eliminate unnecessary replacement of a perfectly functioning roofing system. |
